Wheelhouse poster

C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical management

Definition

SOLAS Chapter V manoeuvring information.

The wheelhouse poster is the permanently displayed chart of a ship’s manoeuvring characteristics, kept in the wheelhouse for the bridge team. IMO Resolution A.601(15), adopted 19 November 1987, requires it together with the pilot card and the manoeuvring booklet on new ships of 100 m and over and on all new chemical tankers and gas carriers regardless of size. It shows general particulars, turning circles, stopping distances and crash-stop data, speed against engine settings, and low-speed and shallow-water effects, all for both the loaded and ballast conditions. The pilot card gives the current actual condition on boarding, while the poster gives the standard reference data the officer of the watch uses to plan a maneuver.
