Kure, Japan museum on the Imperial Japanese Navy.
The Kure Maritime Museum, popularly the Yamato Museum, opened 23 April 2005 at Kure, Hiroshima prefecture, the naval shipyard that built the Imperial Japanese Navy battleship Yamato. Its centerpiece is a 1/10-scale 26.3-meter model of Yamato, the largest battleship ever built, displacing about 72,800 tons and sunk by US aircraft on 7 April 1945 during Operation Ten-Go off Okinawa. The museum also holds a Zero fighter and a human torpedo Kaiten.
