Yard Tug

A small tug used inside a shipyard or naval base to move hulls, floating docks, barges, and unpowered or partly fitted ships between berths, the building dock, and the fitting-out quay. It works in tight basins at low speed, so high bollard pull per length and close-quarters control matter more than range or seakeeping; many are twin-screw or ASD units of modest power. Yard tugs are not certified for coastal or ocean towage and operate within the yard’s restricted water under the facility’s own procedures.
