Zheng He Treasure Ship Replica
F2. Maritime Culture, Heritage, Archaeology, Art and MuseumsDefinition
Modern Nanjing reconstruction project.
Modern reconstructions of the large junks of the Ming admiral Zheng He, whose seven voyages between 1405 and 1433 reached Southeast Asia, India, Arabia, and the East African coast. The Treasure Boat Shipyard (Longjiang) at Nanjing, where the originals were built, was excavated and developed into a heritage park with a reconstruction. The chronicled dimensions of the largest baochuan, often cited near 120 meters, are disputed by naval architects as implausible for a wooden hull and may reflect exaggeration in the sources.
