Definition

International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships, 2001.

The International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships, 2001, banned organotin compounds such as tributyltin in anti-fouling paints, which had been shown to harm non-target marine life. It entered into force on 17 September 2008 and requires ships of 400 GT and above to hold an International Anti-fouling System Certificate. A 2021 amendment added controls on cybutryne.
