All-Electric FPSO

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

FPSO with electrified utilities for emissions reduction.

A Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit whose topsides utilities, compression, pumping, and drives run on electric power rather than direct gas-turbine or hydraulic drive, often fed by power-from-shore or low-emission onboard generation. The aim is to cut CO2 and NOx from the production process; Equinor’s design studies on the Norwegian Continental Shelf set the reference for an electrified FPSO concept. The hull still provides crude storage and tandem or turret offloading; only the power and drive architecture changes.
