Apprentice Pilot
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Trainee marine pilot under deep-sea pilotage training.
An apprentice pilot is a trainee marine pilot serving the supervised trips, examinations, and progressive tonnage and draught limits that lead to a full pilot’s license. Training combines bridge time alongside licensed pilots with ship-handling simulation and a detailed study of the pilotage district’s tides, currents, and traffic. The structured progression reflects the recommendations of IMO Resolution A.960 on pilot training and certification.
