BLNG, spot freight assessment for LNG carriers.
The Baltic LNG Index (BLNG) is the Baltic Exchange’s spot freight assessment for LNG carriers, published daily in dollars per day for the modern tonnage class. It runs route assessments such as BLNG3, the Sabine to Tokyo round voyage routed via Panama, with values quoted as headline hire in dollars per day; recent BLNG3 prints have moved in the six-figure-per-day range. The BLNG underlies LNG freight FFAs cleared on the major freight clearing houses. It gives charterers, traders, and owners a transparent mark for a market that historically priced through bilateral term deals rather than a published spot rate.
