BMP East Africa

Best Management Practices guidance written for the Somali piracy threat off East Africa, the lineage that ran from BMP1 through BMP4 (2011) and into BMP5 (2018). These editions defined the Gulf of Aden Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor, the High Risk Area, UKMTO reporting, and ship-hardening measures against skiff-and-mothership Pirate Action Groups. BMP5 superseded BMP4 and broadened the scope to maritime security generally rather than Somali piracy alone, introducing the Area of Heightened Risk. Separate region-specific guidance now covers West Africa.
