Guidance tailored to Gulf of Guinea threat profile.
Best Management Practices for the Gulf of Guinea, published in 2020 as guidance tailored to West African waters where kidnap-for-ransom and crew abduction, not hijack-for-ransom, dominate the threat. It addresses the distinct profile off Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and the wider Gulf of Guinea: attacks far offshore, fast craft, and boarding for hostages. The guidance directs reporting to the Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG) center rather than UKMTO, and aligns with the Yaounde Code regional architecture and the Gulf of Guinea Declaration.
