Brackets (structural)

Structural brackets are connection plates that join two primary or secondary members and carry the bending moment across the joint, for example the bracket between a deck beam and a side frame, or between a floor and a side frame at the bilge. The bracket transfers load by extending the effective flange of both members around the corner, and class rules set its arm length, thickness, and edge stiffening (a flanged or face-bar edge) by the member it connects. Tripping brackets are a related type that stabilize a stiffener web against rotation. A toe at the bracket end is sniped or soft to lower the stress concentration and fatigue risk.
