Bridge NavData Network (NMEA OneNet/IEC 61162-450/460)
E3. Technology, digitalization and smart shippingDefinition
Standardized navigation data networks.
A shipboard Ethernet network that distributes navigation and sensor data among bridge equipment under IEC 61162-450 (lightweight Ethernet using UDP multicast) and IEC 61162-460 (the safety/security-hardened variant adding a gateway, redundancy, and access control). NMEA OneNet is the NMEA equivalent, an IPv6 Ethernet standard published in 2020 that carries NMEA 2000 PGNs over Ethernet. These replace point-to-point serial links for high-bandwidth feeds like radar, ECDIS, and AIS while preserving the legacy NMEA sentence and PGN data models.
