Car carrier (PCC/PCTC)

A car carrier is the roll-on/roll-off ship that moves finished vehicles, marketed as the pure car carrier (PCC) for cars alone and the pure car/truck carrier (PCTC) when strengthened decks also take trucks and machinery. The boxy superstructure runs the full length and holds 10 to 14 decks, and cargo is rated in car equivalent units (CEU) based on the RT43 reference car. A typical 200 meter PCTC carries near 6,000 CEU across 13 decks; the largest exceed 8,000 CEU. Vehicles drive aboard over a stern quarter ramp, lashed deck by deck, which keeps turnaround to hours. Hoistable decks adjust clearance between voyages to mix sedans, SUVs, and high-and-heavy units.
