Chemical Distribution Institute, ship-inspection scheme for chemical and gas tankers.
The Chemical Distribution Institute (CDI) runs an independent ship-inspection scheme for chemical and gas tankers, parallel to the OCIMF SIRE program used by oil-company charterers. CDI accredits inspectors who complete a standardized report covering hardware, procedures, and crew on chemical and liquefied-gas carriers, which charterers and terminals consult during vetting. The CDI-Marine report serves the bulk liquid chemical and gas trades much as a SIRE inspection serves crude and product tankers. A ship’s CDI score and outstanding observations affect its acceptability for charter and terminal access.
