Management for the safe operation of ships (ISM Code).
SOLAS Chapter IX makes the International Safety Management (ISM) Code mandatory, requiring every company operating covered ships to develop, implement, and maintain a documented Safety Management System. It applies to passenger ships, oil and chemical tankers, gas carriers, bulk carriers, and high-speed craft of 500 GT and above, and to other cargo ships and mobile offshore drilling units of 500 GT and above.
