Clean fixture
C1. Commercial shipping, chartering, economics and financeDefinition
Concluded charter free of subjects.
A clean fixture is a charter concluded free of subjects, meaning every condition precedent (subject details, subject board approval, subject stem, subject survey) has been lifted and the parties are firmly bound. Until a fixture is clean it remains conditional and either party can walk without liability if a subject fails. Brokers report a deal as fixed on subjects first, then clean once the subjects are lifted within the stated time, often 24 to 48 hours. A clean fixture is the point at which the recap becomes a binding contract and the chartering broker earns commission.
