Conditional class
C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical managementDefinition
Class subject to outstanding conditions.
Conditional class, recorded as a condition of class, is a class status where the society lets a ship keep its class but imposes a dated requirement to repair a defect or complete a deferred item by a set deadline. A surveyor finds wastage, a cracked weld, or a deficient fitting that does not warrant immediate withdrawal, so the society notes the condition with a due date rather than suspending class. The owner must clear it by that date, or class is suspended and the certificate of class lapses. Port state control and vetting inspectors read open conditions of class straight off the survey status as an operational risk signal.
