Survey status
C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical managementDefinition
Status of class and statutory surveys.
Survey status is the class society’s record of every survey a ship owes and has completed, with each item’s due date, range window, and any open condition of class. It lists the annual, intermediate, special, docking, boiler, tailshaft, and statutory surveys, marking each as completed, due, or overdue, so an owner, charterer, or buyer can see at a glance whether class is maintained. An overdue survey or an unactioned condition of class suspends class and voids the statutory certificates. Vetting inspectors and prospective buyers pull the survey status report first; it is the single document that proves the ship is in class.
