Cradle (Subsea)

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Lifting frame for subsea modules.

A subsea cradle is a steel lifting and support frame that carries a subsea module, manifold, or structure during overboarding, descent through the splash zone, and landing on the seabed, controlling the rigging geometry and load distribution. The cradle protects the structure’s fragile interfaces and provides certified padeyes for the crane and any tugger lines. It is designed and proof-load tested as offshore lifting equipment under standards such as DNV 2.7-3 and IMCA M 179, with dynamic amplification factors applied to the static weight for through-water lifts.
