Doorstep delivery
C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal tradeDefinition
Door delivery of containerised cargo.
Doorstep delivery, also called door delivery, carries a container or its contents to the consignee’s own premises rather than stopping at the port or an inland depot. It is the inland leg of a door-to-door service and is arranged as merchant haulage (consignee’s own trucker) or carrier haulage (line-arranged). The carrier’s responsibility, the freight quote, and the point where demurrage stops versus container detention starts all hinge on whether the contract runs to the door or only to the CY. For FCL the box is delivered, unstuffed at the door, and returned empty; for LCL the goods are delivered after deconsolidation at a CFS.
