Builders supplying LNG carriers and dual-fuel vessels.
DSME, now Hanwha Ocean, is a South Korean shipbuilder that is one of the principal global suppliers of large membrane-type LNG carriers and dual-fuel tonnage. Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering was acquired by Hanwha Group for about 2 trillion won and rebranded Hanwha Ocean in 2023. The yard builds 174,000 cubic meter and larger LNG carriers using GTT membrane containment, and has secured approval in principle from ABS for an LNG carrier with an ammonia-fueled gas turbine, marketed as a near-zero-emission design. Its dual-fuel and ammonia-ready newbuildings place it alongside Samsung Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai as a builder shaping the gas-carrier transition.
