Electrical Load analysis (ELA)
B2. Marine EngineeringDefinition
Calculation of generator capacity per operational mode.
An electrical load analysis (ELA), or load balance, tabulates every electrical consumer on the ship and its demand in each operating mode, sea, maneuvering, port, cargo handling, and emergency, to size the generators and prove sufficient capacity with one set out of service. Each load is entered with its rated power, a load factor, and a diversity factor giving the simultaneous demand, then totaled per mode. The result sets the number and rating of main generators, confirms emergency-generator adequacy, and supports the power management load-shedding design. Class requires the ELA in the electrical design submission.
