Engine International Air Pollution Prevention Certificate (EIAPP)
A3. Marine environmental legislation: MARPOL and its annexesDefinition
Required under NOx Technical Code.
The Engine International Air Pollution Prevention (EIAPP) certificate certifies that a marine diesel engine over 130 kW meets its applicable NOx tier limit under MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 13. It is issued under the NOx Technical Code 2008 (MEPC.177(58)) following pre-certification testing on the test bed and the parent-engine or engine-group concept. Each certified engine carries a Technical File that fixes the components, settings, and operating values needed to stay within the certified NOx value, verified on board by the engine parameter check or direct measurement survey. The EIAPP is a prerequisite for the ship’s IAPP certificate.
