European satellite organization operating Meteosat and Metop.
EUMETSAT is the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, the intergovernmental operator of Europe’s weather and ocean-monitoring satellites, based in Darmstadt, Germany. It runs the geostationary Meteosat series and the polar-orbiting Metop satellites, which carry the ASCAT scatterometer that delivers operational ocean surface winds. EUMETSAT operates the Jason and Sentinel-6 altimetry missions jointly with NASA, NOAA, ESA, and CNES, and hosts the Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility, OSI SAF, producing sea-ice concentration, edge, and drift. Its data feed numerical weather prediction, wave forecasting, and sea-ice charting.
