D5. Coastal processes, sea-level, cryosphere and ocean observation science

Definition

NOAA's satellite data service.

NOAA NESDIS is the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, the NOAA line office that operates the United States civilian environmental satellites and manages the national environmental data archives. It runs the geostationary GOES series and the polar JPSS satellites, and operates the National Centers for Environmental Information, NCEI, which archive ocean, atmospheric, and geophysical data. NESDIS produces operational sea-surface temperature, sea ice, ocean color, and altimetry products, and hosts the World Data Service archives. Its satellite products and reanalysis-quality records feed marine forecasting, climate monitoring, and the marine climatological summaries.
