Falklands Conflict 1982
F1. Maritime HistoryDefinition
Maritime campaign including taskforce logistics, STUFT, and the loss of HMS Sheffield.
The Falklands Conflict of April to June 1982 was a maritime campaign fought between Britain and Argentina over the South Atlantic islands, conducted 8,000 nautical miles from the British home base. It turned on naval logistics, the use of Ships Taken Up From Trade (STUFT) including the liner Queen Elizabeth 2, carrier-borne Sea Harriers, and submarine operations; the cruiser General Belgrano and the destroyer HMS Sheffield were both lost. The war demonstrated the enduring value of amphibious and expeditionary sea power.
