Final inspection (yard)

B4. Shipbuilding, Materials, Sea Trials, Retrofits and Recycling

Definition

Pre-handover inspection.

The final inspection at the yard is the last pre-handover walkthrough that confirms the ship is complete, clean, and free of outstanding defects before the delivery documents are signed. The owner’s superintendent, the yard, and the class surveyor work through the punch list, the running record of open items raised during construction and trials, closing or deferring each with an agreed remedy. Class confirms the survey items for the initial certificates are cleared. The inspection verifies the outfit, safety equipment, paint, and machinery against the specification, and any guarantee items that remain open are carried into the post-delivery guarantee period rather than blocking delivery.
