FONASBA Standard Liner and General Agency Agreements

F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and Institutions

Definition

Industry-standard agency contracts.

The FONASBA Standard Liner and General Agency Agreements are model contracts published by FONASBA that set out the terms between a shipping line (the principal) and its appointed port agent. The Standard Liner Agency Agreement governs the agent acting for a liner operator in a port or territory; the General Agency Agreement covers a general agent appointed over a wider area or for multiple functions. Both allocate the agent’s duties, remuneration, indemnities, and termination, giving liner principals and agents a recognized baseline rather than negotiating each appointment from scratch.
