Genco Reproductus
A5. Maritime Law, private and commercialDefinition
Reference to standard voyage charter form.
Genco Reproductus refers to the BIMCO Gencon voyage charter form, the most widely used standard general-cargo voyage charterparty. The current edition is Gencon 1994, which revised the 1976 form and remains the market standard for tramp dry-cargo fixtures. It sets the freight basis, laytime and demurrage, the owner’s responsibility clause (a narrowed liability regime, not full Hague-Visby unless a clause paramount is added), the lien clause, and the war-risk and ice clauses. Gencon issues with the Congenbill bill of lading, which incorporates the charter terms and a Hague or Hague-Visby clause paramount. BIMCO published a further revision, Gencon 2022, updating the form.
