Greek Maritime Cluster

The Greek shipping community, the world’s largest by deadweight tonnage owned, centered on Piraeus and the Athens coast at Kifissia and Glyfada. Greek owners control roughly a fifth of global merchant tonnage, concentrated in tankers, bulk carriers, and LNG. The cluster groups owning families, the Union of Greek Shipowners, sale-and-purchase and chartering brokers, marine insurers, admiralty lawyers, and the Hellenic merchant marine academies. Greek tonnage is registered both under the Greek flag and open registries, supported by Greek tonnage-tax law.
