The Hobie 16 is a beach catamaran designed by Hobart (Hobie) Alter and introduced in 1970, 5.05 m (16 ft 7 in) long with twin asymmetric hulls, no centerboards, a single trapeze, and a mainsail and jib. With more than 100,000 built it is among the most produced sailboats ever and remains a World Sailing International Class with a world championship. The banana-shaped hulls provide lift in place of daggerboards. It is not an Olympic class.
