Hovercraft Ferry

An air-cushion vehicle (ACV) carrying passengers on a pressurized cushion held by a flexible skirt, able to cross water, mudflats, and beaches; the Hovertravel Ryde to Southsea route across the Solent has run since 1965 and is the world’s longest-running passenger hovercraft service. As a dynamically supported craft it is regulated under the IMO Dynamically Supported Craft (DSC) Code (Resolution A.373(X), 1977) or, for newer high-speed designs, the HSC Code under SOLAS Chapter X.
