Inland tanker (Type C)

B5. Ship Types and Individual Vessels

Definition

ADN classified inland tanker.

An inland tanker Type C is a closed-tank vessel built to the European ADN agreement for carrying the more hazardous dangerous liquids on inland waterways. ADN sorts tank vessels into Type G for gases, Type C, and Type N for the lowest hazards; the Type C is the high-specification class, with cargo carried in closed tanks fitted with pressure and vacuum relief and protected by a double hull and double bottom against grounding and collision. Type C tankers move chemicals, gasoline, and other volatile or toxic liquids on the Rhine, Danube, and connected European rivers and canals. The class sits at the strict end of the ADN tank-vessel scale, below Type G in hazard scope but above Type N.
