Indian Ocean Tuna Commission.
The Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) is the tuna RFMO for the Indian Ocean, established under FAO Article XIV by an agreement in force since 1996. It manages 16 species of tuna and tuna-like fish, principally yellowfin, skipjack, bigeye, and albacore, plus billfish, through conservation and management measures that set catch limits, effort and capacity controls, FAD management plans, and seasonal area closures. IOTC yellowfin has been assessed as overfished and subject to interim rebuilding measures. Its scientific advice comes from the Scientific Committee and species working parties.
