ISO 8217:2024
X111. Methanol, Ammonia and Alternative Marine FuelsDefinition
Specification of petroleum products for fuels for marine diesel engines, including grades incorporating biofuel content.
ISO 8217 specifies the requirements for petroleum-derived and bio-residual marine fuels delivered for use in marine diesel engines and boilers, defining distillate (DM) and residual (RM) grades by limits on viscosity, density, sulphur, flash point, water, ash, vanadium, sodium, and aluminium plus silicon, among others. The 2024 edition (the seventh) extends the structure to fuels containing biofuel components, adding FAME-containing distillate and residual grades and parameters relevant to fatty-acid methyl esters. It is the contractual quality reference cited in bunker supply agreements and recorded on the bunker delivery note.
