Bunker delivery note
X19. Engine Room Watchkeeping and UMS OperationsDefinition
BDN, document required under MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 18 listing fuel quantity and sulphur content.
The bunker delivery note is the document a supplier issues on each bunkering, recording fuel quantity, product grade, density at 15 degrees Celsius, and sulphur content. MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 18.5 makes the BDN mandatory, requires it be kept aboard for three years, and requires a representative sealed sample be retained for twelve months for port state verification. The BDN is the primary evidence of fuel compliance with the 0.50 percent global sulphur limit or 0.10 percent inside emission control areas, and it underpins fuel quantity disputes.
