Joining Bunkers

Joining bunkers are the fuel and lubricants already on board a vessel at the moment it is delivered into a time charter, that is, the quantities the charterer takes over and pays the owner for at delivery. The charter party fixes the price (often a stated rate or current market price) and the survey quantities. The mirror item is the redelivery bunkers the owner buys back when the ship comes off hire. A bunker survey on delivery and redelivery establishes the figures; the term is also written “bunkers on delivery.”
