Justice and Maritime Labour

Justice and maritime labour is the body of rights and enforcement protecting seafarers’ working conditions, centered on the ILO Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006), the “seafarers’ bill of rights,” which entered force on 20 August 2013. MLC consolidates 37 earlier ILO instruments into minimum standards for wages, hours, accommodation, food, medical care, and repatriation, enforced through flag-state Maritime Labour Certificates and port-state control inspection. Abandonment, wage theft, and contract abuse are policed through this framework alongside ITF inspectors.
