Jutland Centenary Exhibition

The 2016 commemorations marking 100 years since the Battle of Jutland (31 May to 1 June 1916), the largest naval engagement of the First World War, fought in the North Sea between the British Grand Fleet under Admiral Jellicoe and the German High Seas Fleet under Vice-Admiral Scheer. Britain lost 14 ships and about 6,000 men, Germany 11 ships and about 2,500. A national service was held at St Magnus Cathedral, Orkney, on 31 May 2016, and exhibitions ran at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth, and Jutland 1916 displays elsewhere.
