JWC Listed Areas

E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and risk

Definition

Geographic zones triggering hull war additional premium.

JWC Listed Areas are the geographic zones the Joint War Committee designates as enhanced-risk for hull war, strikes, terrorism, and related perils, triggering additional premium when an insured ship enters them. The Joint War Committee, drawn from Lloyd’s underwriters and the International Underwriting Association, publishes the Hull War, Piracy, Terrorism and Related Perils Listed Areas as guidance; entry into a listed area is typically notifiable to underwriters, who then quote an additional premium (commonly within a seven-day notice convention). Listed areas have covered the Gulf of Guinea, the southern Red Sea, the Persian Gulf approaches, and Ukrainian and Russian Black Sea waters.
