The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) is Kenya’s national maritime administration, established by presidential order in June 2004 to take over shipping and maritime-safety functions from the Kenya Ports Authority. Headquartered in Mombasa, KMA is the semi-autonomous state corporation that regulates, coordinates, and oversees maritime affairs: flag and port-state functions, seafarer certification, ship registration, and implementation of IMO conventions for Kenya. It reports to the ministry responsible for shipping and maritime affairs.
