Key performance indicators

C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical management

Definition

Shipping KPIs such as the InterManager SKPIs.

Key performance indicators (KPIs) in ship management are standardized metrics that quantify operational, safety, environmental, and crewing performance for benchmarking across a fleet and against peers. The recognized industry framework is the BIMCO Shipping KPI standard, developed by InterManager and acquired by BIMCO in 2015 and now run as BIMCO SHIP PI. It builds roughly 33 KPIs from a base set of performance indicators, grouped into eight Shipping Performance Index areas: environmental, safety, security, HR, technical, navigational, operational, and port state control performance. About 300 companies report on around 6,000 ships, giving an anonymized peer benchmark.
