Liner agency agreement

A liner agency agreement appoints a ship agent to represent a liner carrier as its agent in a defined territory, setting out the agent’s duties, territory, term, and remuneration. The most widely used standard form is the FONASBA Standard Liner and General Agency Agreement, published by the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents and approved by BIMCO in 2001, which covers marketing, port agency, container and roro handling, documentation, and the collection of freight and disbursement of accounts on the principal’s behalf. FONASBA also issues a shorter appointment form for a single port call or a limited series of calls.
