Lloyd's Register Polar Class Notations

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

PC1 to PC7 designations.

Lloyd’s Register issues Polar Class notations PC1 through PC7 in its Rules for Ships for Ice and Cold Operations, applying the IACS Unified Requirements for Polar Class Ships and aligning with the IMO Polar Code in force 1 January 2017. The class certificate records the assigned Polar Class, the Polar Service Temperature, and any winterization notation, fixing hull-girder and local ice scantlings, propulsion ice loads, and machinery requirements. LR also assigns lower Baltic ice notations (1AS, 1A, 1B, 1C) for first-year Baltic ice, which are separate from the year-round Polar Class range.
