MAN B&W S60ME-C

B2. Marine Engineering

Definition

Two-stroke 60 cm bore electronically controlled engine.

The MAN B&W S60ME-C is a two-stroke, low-speed, crosshead marine diesel engine with a 600 mm bore, built by MAN Energy Solutions. In the designation S is the standard stroke-to-bore ratio, ME marks electronic control of fuel injection and exhaust valve actuation in place of a camshaft, and C is the compact frame. It is the main propulsion engine for medium-size tankers, bulk carriers, and feeder container ships, typically rated a few thousand kW per cylinder in 5 to 8 cylinder builds. The ME platform allows variable injection timing in software, so it meets NOx Tier II under MARPOL Annex VI Reg 13 and supports EGR or SCR for Tier III.
