MAN ES ME-GI
B2. Marine EngineeringDefinition
Two-stroke high-pressure gas injection dual-fuel engine.
The MAN ES ME-GI is a two-stroke, low-speed, dual-fuel marine engine from MAN Energy Solutions that injects gas at high pressure, about 300 bar, into the cylinder near top dead center, so combustion follows the diesel compression-ignition cycle on both gas and liquid fuel. A small pilot injection of fuel oil ignites the charge. High-pressure direct injection gives near-zero methane slip, the ME-GI’s main advantage over low-pressure Otto-cycle dual-fuel two-strokes such as the WinGD X-DF and the MAN ME-GA. It burns LNG; the related ME-LGIM burns methanol and the ME-LGIP burns LPG, all with a fuel-oil pilot. The GI suffix denotes high-pressure gas injection.
