Marine Insurance Surveyor
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Loss-adjusting professional.
A marine insurance surveyor inspects ships, cargo, and casualties on behalf of underwriters and protection and indemnity clubs, assessing condition, cause of loss, and the quantum of a claim. The role draws on the Lloyd’s market tradition and feeds loss adjustment under marine policies governed by the Marine Insurance Act 1906 and the Institute Clauses. Pre-entry condition surveys for older ships are a common part of the work.
