MCT1cm

B1. Naval Architecture

Definition

Moment to change trim 1 cm.

MCT1cm is the moment, in tonne-meters, needed to change trim by one centimeter: $MCT1cm = (\Delta \cdot GM_L) / (100 \cdot L)$, where $GM_L$ is the longitudinal metacentric height. It converts a weight shift or addition into a trim change once the moment about the center of flotation is known. Because $GM_L$ is large, trim responds far less than heel to a given moment, and MCT1cm is read from the curves of form at the working draft.
