Conditions of employment.

Title 2 of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 governs conditions of employment. It covers Regulation 2.1 seafarers’ employment agreements, 2.2 wages, 2.3 hours of work and rest, 2.4 entitlement to leave, 2.5 repatriation, 2.6 compensation for ship loss or foundering, 2.7 manning levels, and 2.8 career and skill development. Regulation 2.3 caps hours within the 14-hour-in-24 and 72-hour-in-7-day or minimum-rest-period framework aligned with STCW. The 2014 amendments to the Code added financial-security requirements for abandonment and for death or long-term disability, in force 18 January 2017. The MLC, 2006 entered into force on 20 August 2013.
