Health protection, medical care, welfare and social security protection.

Title 4 of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 covers health protection, medical care, welfare, and social security protection. Regulation 4.1 requires onboard medical care and access to shore facilities comparable to workers ashore, 4.2 sets shipowner liability for sickness, injury, and death occurring in service, 4.3 addresses health, safety, and accident prevention, 4.4 covers access to shore-based seafarer welfare facilities, and 4.5 deals with social security coverage. The 2014 amendments tied financial security for shipowner liability under Regulation 4.2 to certificates carried on board. The MLC, 2006 entered into force on 20 August 2013.
